Former CA reporter Cindy Wolff has been offered her job back as a result of a grievance filed by the Memphis Newspaper Guild, but has decided to pursue an opportunity in broadcast journalism.
Former CA reporter has been rehired after newspaper guild filed grievance The Memphis Newspaper Guild takes The Commercial Appeal to task for company's widespread and growing use of contractors. Guild says contractors indistinguishable from employees except for how they're classified and paid. Company responds by moving contractors out of building. The Commercial Appeal notifies Memphis Newspaper Guild of plans to outsource two advertising graphic design jobs to India. Read more >>> Spreading a little unexpected Holiday cheer. The Guild asked Santa to deliver their annual gift cards to their members for them this year. The Commercial Appeal eliminates six newsroom jobs, including three employees represented by Memphis Newspaper Guild. Due to a Scripps company-wide action, The Commercial Appeal enacted a reduction in force on Monday, August 27. The company eliminated 17 guild-covered jobs. We invited the interns to join us for dinner at the Trolley Stop for a chance to get acquainted with our soon-to-be colleagues of the news business.
Marilyn Kennedy Retires
Marilyn Kennedy of the circulation department and our 3rd Vice-President, is retiring this month. She has been a long time guild member and friend to all at the Commercial Appeal. She will be missed. We wish her all the best in all she will be doing next.
